Immersive Media Spec

Overview

Delivering the highest quality is important to us. This document provides technical specifications and guidelines for immersive media assets accepted on Prima. If you require additional details, please contact us.

Immersive Video Source Profile

  • Minimum resolution of 7200 × 7200 pixels per eye for a 180º field of view fisheye.
  • At least 40 pixels per degree (PPD) on the vertical and horizontal axes.
  • Minimum field of view of 165º on the horizontal axis and 150º on the vertical axis.
  • Field of view calculation may include areas occluded by lenses.
  • Frame rate of 90 FPS.
  • P3-D65 color space.
  • Synchronized stereoscopic image pair.
  • Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) or 4444 or 4444 (XQ).
  • High dynamic range.
  • HDR10 or Dolby Vision.
  • SMPTE ST 2084 (PQ) transfer function.

Immersive Audio Source Profile

  • Dolby Atmos, Prima Spatial Audio Codec, or APAC.
  • 48 kHz with 16-bit or 24-bit resolution.

Comfort Guidelines

Immersive stereoscopic content has a higher bar for viewer comfort than traditional video. While the guidelines below are not hard rules, care must be taken to not cause nausea or discomfort.

  • For moving shots, use controlled motion on a single axis.
  • Convergence should be set to the furthest background plane in the central 60º region.
  • We recommend limiting shots that show a rolled horizon.
  • Interaxial distance (IAD) between 58mm and 72mm.
  • Dual sensor camera systems should be synchronized.
  • Some mechanism to achieve continuous or initial pixel level synchronization.
